Dr. K Srilata
Professor, School of Arts and Sciences

Dr. K Srilata has 24 years of experience in research and teaching in the field of literary studies. She was awarded a PhD in English from the Central University of Hyderabad in 1998 and has also received the Fulbright Pre-doctoral fellowship, the Charles Wallace India Trust Writing Fellowship at the University of Stirling, Scotland, the Yeonhui Writing residency in Seoul and the Sangam House writing residency, India. She is a widely published poet, fiction writer and translator.

Dr. Srilata‘s novel titled Table for Four published by Penguin, India was long-listed for the Man-Asian prize. She has co-edited the anthologies Rapids of a Great River: The Penguin Book of Tamil Poetry, Short Fiction from South India, All the Worlds Between and Lifescapes: Interviews with Contemporary Women Writers from Tamilnadu.  Dr. Srilata has five collections of poetry, the latest of which, The Unmistakable Presence of Absent Humans, was published by Poetrywala in 2019. Other poetry books include Bookmarking the Oasis, Writing Octopus, Arriving Shortly and Seablue Child.  Dr. Srilata has translated two novels by the Tamil writer Vatsala – Once There was a Girl and The Scent of Happiness.

She began her career as Editorial Consultant in Katha South Centre, Chennai in 1998. Subsequently, she joined Chennai Mathematical Institute as a Lecturer. She joined the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Madras, Chennai in 2003 as Assistant Professor. She has been associated with IIT Madras, Chennai as Professor since 2013 before joining Sai University.

At Sai University Dr. Srilata will be teaching Writing and Literature to the Undergraduate students.
