Sindhuja Sankaran
Assistant Professor of Psychology

Dr. Sindhuja Sankaran finished her graduate studies in India and completed her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Cardiff University, School of Psychology, Cardiff, UK, in 2013. After her Ph.D. she joined the Department of Psychology, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland, working in the Centre for Social Cognitive Studies as a post-doctoral candidate. She won a research fellowship grant and worked in the University of Warsaw, Psychology Faculty for three years as an Adjunct Professor. On completion, she was hired again at Jagiellonian University as an Assistant Professor. Most recently, she worked as a guest lecturer at Women’s Christian College, Chennai, India. At SAI University, Dr. Sankaran is a founding member of the psychology department and will be engaged in the development of the same. In 2018, she spent three weeks volunteering in the refugee camp Moria, in Lesvos, Greece helping with mental health workshops and the medical staff, teaching English to children and adults, and spent time in ‘talk therapy’ with refugees and asylum seekers. In 2018 again, she founded her NGO ‘Rethinking Refugees’ (rethinkingrefugees.com) that engages in public education and raises awareness about the situation of refugees and communicate humanising narratives.

Sindhuja, is also an avid appreciator of wine, travel, world cuisine and cats. She has also collaborated on several musical projects as a vocalist. Finally, if you have a good pun joke, don’t forget to share it with Sindhuja!
